5 Weeks • 5 Films • Plus a Serialized Classic

What defines a masterpiece? In this compelling five-week journey, we explore films that have shaped, challenged, and redefined cinema across the 20th century. Each selection is a work of extraordinary vision -- bold in theme, unforgettable in performance, and enduring in its emotional power.

We begin with the haunting humanity of The Elephant Man, where dignity emerges from suffering in one of cinema’s most compassionate portraits.  From there, we enter the chilling psychological landscape of Capote, a study of art, obsession, and moral compromise.  Identity and illusion take center stage in The Crying Game, a film that stunned audiences with its narrative daring, while Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s darkly ironic morality tale comes to life in The Visit -- a chilling examination of justice, revenge, and the price of complicity.  We conclude with the vibrant emotional world of All About My Mother, where Pedro Almodóvar crafts a deeply moving tribute to women, performance, and resilience.

Threaded across all five weeks is a modern American landmark -- American Beauty -- presented in serialized form.
Through full screenings, guided discussion, and rich historical context, 20th Century Film Masterpieces invites you to experience cinema not just as entertainment, but as one of the defining art forms of our time.
