ACE Instructor Featured in DFS Golden Gazette Magazine
Springfield, VA — May 1, 2026 — Fanny Gaston moved to the United States from France over 30 years ago. She didn’t speak a word of English when she arrived but became fluent after taking classes offered by Fairfax County Public Schools Adult & Community Education (ACE) program. Along with the welcoming community she found in Fairfax County, she credits ACE with helping her find her footing and make connections in her new home. Years later, Fanny joined the staff of ACE and now connects with and inspires her own students. (continued)

FCPS Adult and Community Education Celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with Expanded Skilled Trades Opportunities and Tuition Savings
Springfield, VA — April 28, 2026 — Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Adult and Community Education (ACE) proudly joins the nationwide celebration of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2026, highlighting its continued commitment to workforce development through apprenticeship and skilled trade education—critical drivers of both local prosperity and the national economy.
Observed April 26 through May 2, 2026, National Apprenticeship Week is a nationwide initiative led by the U.S. Department of Labor to showcase how Registered Apprenticeship programs strengthen the economy by building a highly skilled workforce and creating pathways to in-demand careers.
At FCPS ACE, apprenticeship and trade programs are a top priority, equipping learners with practical, job-ready skills in high-demand industries such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and construction. These programs support career exploration, industry certification, and ongoing professional development—meeting the needs of both individuals and employers across the region.
“Skilled trades are essential to a thriving economy and resilient communities,” said an FCPS ACE spokesperson. “Through accessible, flexible, and affordable training, we are helping individuals gain valuable skills, secure meaningful employment, and contribute to the economic vitality of our region.”
National Apprenticeship Week 2026 Promotions
In recognition of NAW 2026, FCPS ACE is offering $100 off select online skilled trade courses through May 31, 2026. This limited-time promotion provides students with an affordable pathway to industry-recognized training programs in fields such as plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and welding.These self-paced, online courses allow learners to balance work, family, and education while gaining credentials that can increase earning potential and career mobility.
New Enrollment Opportunity: Apprenticeship 101
FCPS ACE is also announcing open enrollment for “Apprenticeship 101: Core Construction Skills,” an introductory program designed to launch students into construction careers.This comprehensive course provides 80 hours of apprenticeship-related instruction and leads to an industry-recognized credential through the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research).
Made possible through grant funding, the program is offered at exceptionally low tuition, ensuring that cost is not a barrier for individuals seeking entry into the skilled trades. The course covers essential topics including safety, construction math, tools, communication skills, and career pathways in construction.
