CourseGraphic Warm up with the rich, comforting flavors of Korean home cooking! In this hands-on class, you’ll discover that there are many varieties of guk  and jjigae depending on seasonal ingredients and regional traditions. Guk is light, broth-based soups typically served alongside rice, while jjigae is a thicker, heartier stew with bolder, more concentrated flavors—two essential dishes at the heart of everyday Korean meals. In this class, however, we will focus on winter ingredients, especially sweet and earthy Korean radish (mu), and the ultimate Korean soul food combination of kimchi and soft tofu.

Together, we’ll prepare Kimchi Sundubu Jjigae, a warm and flavorful stew made with fermented kimchi and silky soft tofu, and Sogogi Muguk, a mild and savory beef and Korean radish soup. These two dishes offer a delicious contrast and a perfect introduction to both spicy Korean stews and comforting, clear soups.
As you cook, you’ll learn how to build flavorful Korean broths with anchovy and beef, work with essential ingredients such as kimchi, Korean radish, garlic, sesame oil, and Korean seasonings, and balance savory, spicy, and umami flavors. You’ll also learn the difference between guk and jjigae and practical techniques you can use to create other Korean soups and stews at home.

Come ready to cook, taste, and enjoy! Whether you’re new to Korean cuisine or already a fan, you’ll leave with new recipes, useful techniques, and the confidence to bring the warmth of Korean home cooking into your own kitchen.
