HVAC 2 builds upon foundational knowledge from the first year and deepens students' understanding of core systems and components. Topics covered include alternating current, compressors, refrigerants and oils, leak detection and repair processes, metering devices, heat pump operation, basic system maintenance, venting practices, sheet metal and flexible ductwork, commercial airside systems, air quality equipment, and an introduction to hydronic systems. This course is part of a structured four-level HVAC apprenticeship program that meets DOLI standards and is recognized by North American Technician Excellence (NATE).

Classes meet twice a week, once in person and once virtually, for the stated hours. Final grades are reported electronically to sponsor employers with a FERPA form on file with ACE.  Registration closes at 12:00 PM on the Friday before class begins. A laptop or tablet is required to access digital class materials. 

Required textbook: Students must purchase digital or print textbook with NCCERConnect code from the NCCER bookstore. Book Edition will be sent prior to class
